Google AI Overviews are AI-generated answers that display above organic search results. More queries trigger AI Overviews by the day, making it important that you monitor which of your target keywords show them and whether your website is getting cited. Without that context, you won’t be able to accurately gauge your competition on the SERP or your content’s performance.

In this guide, we go over the nine best Google AI Overview tracking tools and cover their features, pros and cons, and pricing.

## What do Google AI Overview tracking tools do?

Google AI Overview tracking tools check:

- Which of your target keywords trigger an AI Overview
- Whether your site is cited in that overview
- Your position among the sources

Some tools also reconcile that data against your traditional organic ranking for the same keyword, so you can see where you rank first but aren’t cited at all.

### AI Overview tracking tools vs. AI Overview checkers

A Google AI Overview tracking tool is different from a checker. Checker tools only do a one-time lookup: you enter your domain or a keyword, and it tells you if an AI Overview appeared and whether your domain was mentioned or cited.

Tracking tools run on a schedule. You input a list of keywords, and the tool checks each of them daily or weekly and keeps a running history. This provides you with trends data, allowing you to see when your brand was added or dropped as a source and whether a content change resulted in any movement.

AI Overview tracking is usually one feature inside a broader [AEO tool](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-aeo-tools) that also covers tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and other AI engines.

## How is tracking AI Overviews different from tracking citations in other AI engines?

Tracking AI Overviews differs from tracking citations in other AI engines (e.g., ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude) in three ways:

- AI Overviews are triggered by keywords, not prompts
- Citations in AI Overviews have a position, not just a presence
- An AI Overview outcome can be compared to your traditional ranking for the same keyword

Here’s why these differences are important.

### AI Overviews are triggered by keywords, not prompts

An AI Overview is attached to a search query, so tracking AI Overviews comes down to monitoring the associated keyword rather than a prompt. This is different from how tracking works for other AI engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Since Google doesn’t show AI Overviews for every search query, a tracking tool first needs to detect whether a keyword triggers an overview. According to [Google’s documentation](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features), AI Overviews appear when Google’s systems determine the format is useful for a specific query and additive to the traditional Search experience. When an AI Overview does appear, it features links to the pages that were used to generate the answer.

### Citations in AI Overviews have a position, not just a presence

An AI Overview usually cites multiple sources, with Google showing some of them before the user expands the answer, and others only after. There’s a difference between being the first cited source and the last, with the first one getting more attention and potentially a click.

![Google AI Overview for the query "AI overview tracking tools" with source chips for Seobility, OmniSEO, and Position Digital beside the answer text, cited pages from AIclicks and SitePoint in the right-hand panel, and a "Show more" button hiding the rest of the answer](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-google-ai-overview-citations.webp)

Knowing your position is important because it tells you what you should do next. If you’re getting cited fourth or fifth, your page is already being used as a source, so the hard part is done. But, getting cited in such a low position means most people won’t click through to your page. Here, you’ll want to work on making the passage Google cited even clearer and more direct, so that it has a better chance of earning a more prominent place in the AI Overview.

If you’re not cited at all, you can identify which pages Google is citing on relevant AI Overviews and analyze them to understand what they’re doing differently. You can use those findings to improve your page and increase your odds of getting cited.

### An AI Overview outcome can be compared to your traditional ranking for the same keyword

Since an AI Overview is tied to a search query, you can compare your performance in traditional search (i.e., keyword rankings) against AI Overview performance. This provides multiple optimization opportunities.

For example, let’s say your page ranks in position three for a keyword, but the associated AI Overview doesn’t cite you. Since you rank in third position, it’s obvious that Google already considers your page very relevant to the query. You have a good chance of getting cited if you [optimize your page for AI Overviews](https://www.searchable.com/blog/rank-in-ai-overviews), and you should prioritize it over other pages that don’t rank as well.

On the other hand, let’s say another one of your pages ranks in position 12, but is getting cited in the AI Overview. Your page is already earning a citation, so rewriting it completely to try to get it to rank better would be unwise because it would put that citation at risk.

Here, you’ll want to put effort into other things that can move rankings without changing the content (e.g., adding internal links from your stronger pages, changing the title and heading to match the search query more closely, or fixing any technical problems on the page).

## Does your ChatGPT tracker already cover AI Overviews?

No, tools that only check ChatGPT don’t tell you anything about AI Overviews because the two cite different sources. Across 13,124 prompts where Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT were each sampled a similar number of times, Searchable compared the domains each engine cited for the same prompt: Of 80,525 prompt-and-domain pairs cited by AI Overviews, only 25.2% were also cited by ChatGPT. About three in four sources that AI Overviews use are not the ones ChatGPT uses for the same question.

A note on how we measured this: Since AI Overviews are checked more often than ChatGPT in our data, we only compared prompts where both engines returned three to five responses in the same window. This resulted in both sides being sampled a similar number of times.

Of the sources cited by ChatGPT, 23.2% were also cited by AI Overviews (which is close to the 25.2% the other way around). AI Overviews also cited fewer sources per answer, on average, compared to ChatGPT, with 3.44 sources cited vs. ChatGPT’s 4.38 (across 843,446 and 537,876 responses).

It’s important to note that this doesn’t indicate which engine is more accurate; it only shows that they cite different sources. All the data comes from the prompts we track, and you can explore [our AI Overviews citation data](https://www.searchable.com/data/google-ai-overviews-citations) yourself.

We track a large set of prompts, but the set isn’t a random sample of the web. Also, we only compared AI Overviews with ChatGPT, so you shouldn’t draw conclusions about other AI engines.

This means that any software that only checks ChatGPT and doesn’t look at AI Overviews doesn’t show you the full picture, and that’s an important consideration if you’re shopping for an AI visibility tool.

## How we chose and tested these AI Overview tracking tools

We assessed these nine Google AI Overview tracking tools on four criteria:

- **Keyword-to-overview mapping:** Can the tool tell you which of your keywords trigger AI Overviews?
- **Citation position reporting:** Does it show your page’s position among the citations within an AI Overview?
- **Reconciliation with traditional ranking:** Does it allow you to compare your organic search ranking and your AI Overview presence for the same keyword side-by-side?
- **Refresh frequency and history:** How frequently the tool checks each keyword for AI Overviews and whether your site gets cited, and for how long it retains the result history.

## The 9 best AI Overview tracking tools compared

The trackers that made our shortlist differ mostly on whether they map your keywords to the overviews that appear (rather than simply flagging that one appeared), and on whether they place the result beside your classic ranking.

All pricing is current as of September 2026.

### 1. Searchable

[Searchable](https://www.searchable.com/features/aeo-insights) is an AI search visibility and analytics platform that tracks your brand’s mentions and citations across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and six other AI engines.

It monitors each of your tracked prompts for AI Overview appearances daily. The platform records whether your brand was cited in an overview, which domains and pages were linked within an answer, and how your citation and mention rates change over time.

You can use the **“Mentions & Citations”** tab to see all this information, as well as the responses Google returned for every tracked prompt, your position, and which other domains were cited.

![Searchable Mentions & Citations tab filtered to Google AI Overviews, listing tracked prompts such as "Best beginner road bikes under $1000" with each AI Overview response and columns for whether the brand was mentioned or cited, its position, the brands mentioned, and the sources cited](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-searchable-mentions-citations.webp)

The **“Visibility”** tab shows your brand’s visibility score across AI Overviews, your average position, and your share of voice against the competition. The **“Sources”** tab tags cited pages by source type and content type, so you can see which formats Google prioritizes in your category.

![Searchable Sources tab listing every URL cited across AI answers, ranked by how often each was used, with each source tagged by source type (Editorial, UGC, Competitor, Review) and content type (Ranked List, Comparison, Other), plus its growth trend](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-searchable-sources.webp)

One of Searchable’s core strengths is its ability to show your brand visibility across different AI engines at a glance. You can analyze your mentions and citations across AI Overviews and then switch to ChatGPT or Claude in a single click.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams looking to track and compare brand visibility across multiple AI engines at the same time.

**Where it falls short:** Traditional rank data. It doesn’t track search engine rankings, so you can’t compare keyword rankings and AI visibility side-by-side.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Searchable’s pricing starts at $125 per month for brand plans and $250 per month for agency plans. You can also get a completely [free visibility report](https://www.searchable.com/free-visibility-report) before you even sign up to check your brand’s AI visibility across Google, ChatGPT, and Perplexity.

### 2. SE Ranking

SE Ranking is an all-in-one SEO platform that offers Google AI Overview tracking as a part of its Rank Tracker tool. It provides you with a summary showing how many of your tracked keywords trigger AI Overviews.

![SE Ranking AI Overview report for the keyword "seo tools" showing AI Overview presence on 34 of 200 tracked keywords (12%) with a trend chart, and two dated lists of AI Overview sources where apple.com moved from position 2 to position 5](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-se-ranking-ai-overview-sources.webp)

For each keyword that triggers an overview, it shows you whether your site is mentioned or cited, its position, and how the position changes day by day. This is filterable by domain and URL, which means that you can also use it to track your competitors’ visibility in AI Overviews.

Your search engine ranking for each keyword displays in the same view, allowing you to compare your search performance with your AI brand visibility.

![SE Ranking AI Overview status chart tracking "AIO provided" and "Website present in AIO" over five days, above an Analyzed keywords table showing each keyword's AIO status, search intent, organic-AI overlap, search volume, and daily organic ranking](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-se-ranking-organic-ai-overlap.webp)

There’s also the Sources report, which shows you the domains and URLs Google is citing in AI Overviews. These are tagged by type (e.g., blog, media, forum) and ranked by how often they appear.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams that are already using it for rank tracking and that don’t need extensive historical data. SE Ranking allows you to track your AI Overviews and search rankings side by side.

**Where it falls short:** Limited historical data and prompt volume on the lower plans. Teams looking to track more than 100 prompts and review all-time historical data for rankings and AI visibility will need to opt for the Growth plan or higher.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Plans start at $129 per month.

### 3. AIclicks

AIclicks is an AI visibility tool that tracks your brand’s visibility across Google AI Overviews and AI engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and others.

When it comes to tracking AI Overviews, AIclicks lets you add your domain and the search queries you’d like to monitor, and then checks Google daily. It shows you whether a keyword triggers an AI Overview and whether you were cited (along with any other domains).

It also shows your citation rank for overviews when applicable, and your citation rate and week-over-week rank trends.

![AIclicks Prompts page with engine filters for Claude, AI Overviews, Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, and a table of prompt topics showing search volume, average position, frequency, mentions, sources, and visibility for each](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-aiclicks-prompts.webp)

AIclicks’ strength is the breadth of features available on the entry-level plan, which includes AI Overview tracking, citation rankings, and daily data refreshes.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams looking for an affordable AI Overview tracker that don’t need to track a large number of keywords.

**Where it falls short:** Prompt volume, with a 30-prompt limit on the Starter plan.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** AIclicks’ pricing starts at $59 per month.

### 4. Seobility

Seobility is a suite of SEO tools that includes AI Overview tracking. It records whether your keywords trigger AI Overviews, the complete AI-generated answer for each keyword, source pages and domains Google cites, and your citation’s position.

AI Overview data displays alongside your keyword rankings, allowing you to compare the two at a glance. Seobility refreshes desktop rankings daily, while mobile rankings refresh every three days.

![Seobility AI Visibility overview showing average visibility, mentions, sentiment, and position scores, a brand visibility trend chart comparing your website with a competitor from February to July, and a top competitors table with visibility, share of voice, and sentiment](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-seobility-ai-visibility.webp)

The platform’s biggest strength is how much overview data it actually keeps: the full text of an AI answer, the domains and content formats cited, and your brand’s appearance alongside organic keyword ranking.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams who want to track AI Overview visibility but don’t need to track visibility across other AI engines.

**Where it falls short:** Seobility locks in certain key features behind higher-priced plans (e.g., citation position, full source lists).

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Seobility’s pricing starts at $69.90 per month.

### 5. ZipTie.ai

ZipTie.ai tracks prompts across Google AI Overviews and six other AI engines, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.

It records the full answer for every AI Overview your keywords trigger, along with whether your brand was cited or mentioned. It also tracks the overall sentiment toward your brand, helping you understand how positively AI Overviews refer to you.

![ZipTie.ai Prompts page with a Prompt Health summary of total prompts, average AI score, and best and worst prompts, above a prompt table showing each prompt's AI success score, trend, and per-engine citations, mentions, and sentiment](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-ziptie-prompts.webp)

ZipTie.ai integrates with Google Search Console, allowing you to see your brand’s visibility in AI Overviews, traditional keyword rankings, and clicks and impressions all in one place. The platform refreshes overview data daily and offers historical data going back 12 months.

Its core strength is its Action Center section, which shows you a ranked list of prompts where your brand isn’t getting cited or where a competitor has overtaken you. This provides you with a prioritized list of tasks to tackle.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams that need a prompt-based tracker that shows organic search results next to each AI Overview, but don’t need data on citation position.

**Where it falls short:** It doesn’t show which position your citations take within an AI Overview, so a first position and fifth position citation look the same.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** ZipTie.ai’s pricing starts at $42.75 per month.

### 6. Keyword.com

Keyword.com is a rank tracker that also records Google AI Overviews for tracked keywords. It identifies which of your keywords trigger overviews, which URLs Google cites inside overviews, and the exact snippet Google pulls from each page.

AI Overview data displays alongside rank tracking in reports, allowing you to review both at the same time.

![Keyword.com AI Visibility dashboard for apple.com showing average brand performance metrics, including visibility score, sentiment score, mentions, citations, average position, detection rate, and top 3 visibility, above a brand performance over time chart](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-keyword-com-ai-visibility.webp)

Every time it performs a check, Keyword.com takes a snapshot of Google’s search results page, showing you exactly how the results would have been displayed to an actual user. Data is updated weekly, with on-demand refreshes available for individual keywords or projects.

**Who it’s best for:** Agencies that manage AI visibility for clients, since it makes it easy to manage many clients and projects under one account.

**Where it falls short:** Data freshness. Data is updated weekly, so analyzing your performance daily isn’t an option.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Keyword.com’s pricing starts at $4 per month, with AI Overview tracking included.

### 7. Advanced Web Ranking

Advanced Web Ranking is a rank tracker with AI Overview tracking built-in. It shows you which of your keywords trigger overviews, whether overviews cite your website, and your citation rank.

It also gives you a clear overview of which citations were shown above the fold (versus below the “Show more” link). The software records the actual AI overview so you can see it the same way a user would.

![Advanced Web Ranking AI dashboard for apple.com with AI visibility, AI traffic potential, AI citations rate, and brand share of voice charts, above a keyword table showing AI visibility, citations, citation rank, AI URLs, cited competitors, and search volume for each keyword](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-advanced-web-ranking-ai-visibility.webp)

You can add up to 50 competing domains and compare your share of voice and AI visibility against them. You can also refresh data on demand or on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule.

Advanced Web Ranking’s lack of limits for large teams is its strongest selling point: it offers unlimited users, projects, and historical data.

**Who it’s best for:** Agencies and enterprises that need to track a large number of projects and provide access to a large number of users.

**Where it falls short:** Lack of focus. It offers a host of features outside of AI Overview tracking, which is reflected in its price, making it the most expensive option on this list.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Advanced Web Ranking’s pricing starts at $139/month.

### 8. OmniSEO

OmniSEO is an AI visibility tool from the team behind SEO.com. It tracks which of your keywords trigger AI Overviews and whether your site or a competitor’s gets cited in them. Over time, it lets you benchmark your citation rate against your competitors, see which topics you’re getting cited for, and identify your most referenced pages.

![OmniSEO Prompts page for Home Depot showing 100 tracked flooring prompts, each with its citation count, trend, PQV, the brands cited, and a visibility score bar](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-omniseo-prompts.webp)

What makes OmniSEO stand out from other tools on this list is its Placement Recommendations feature, which gives you a prioritized list of tasks to work on to improve your AI visibility. For example, it might tell you to optimize an existing page for a specific keyword you haven’t considered, or give you recommendations on how to optimize pages that are cited less often.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams that just want a quick list of fixes to prioritize and don’t need to dive deep into their AI visibility.

**Where it falls short:** Lack of citation rank. It also doesn’t track keyword rankings, so you can’t compare AI visibility and organic search performance side-by-side.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** OmniSEO’s pricing starts at $89 per month.

### 9. SEO.com AI Overview Checker

SEO.com’s AI Overview Checker is a free tool that lets you look up how many of your keywords trigger AI Overviews. It separates itself from the other tools on this list in that it’s a checker, not a full tracking tool.

All you need to do is enter your domain and an email address, and the tool will automatically pull up 100 of your keywords and provide you with a report. You’ll be able to see which of these keywords trigger overviews as well as the generated answer and the sources it cites.

![SEO.com AI Overview Impact Analysis for searchable.com showing that 83 of 100 keywords have an AI Overview, an estimated 222 to 444 monthly visits lost to AI Overviews, and a list of the top 100 keywords each marked "View AI Overview" or "No AI Overview"](https://www.searchable.com/blog/best-ai-overview-tracking-tools-seo-com-ai-overview-checker.webp)

The tool also shows you the organic search results for a keyword right next to the AI Overview data, allowing you to compare the two.

**Who it’s best for:** Teams just getting started with AI Overview tracking that want to learn more about which of their keywords trigger overviews.

**Where it falls short:** Limited information. You can’t choose the keywords, get a quick overview of whether you’re cited for a specific overview or not, or track performance over time.

**Pricing (as of September 2026):** Free, limited to three checks per day.

## Can you track AI Overviews for free?

Yes, but only one of the free options is genuinely capable. SEO.com's AI Overview Checker is free with no signup, examines your top 100 keywords, shows which of them trigger an AI Overview, and displays your organic ranking position alongside the AI Overview result.

Seobility also has a free tier, but it only tells you whether an AI Overview appeared (like SEO.com’s AI Overview Checker); citation position and the side-by-side organic comparison are Premium features. Neither free option stores history or monitors on a schedule.

So if you’re just looking to learn whether your brand appears in AI Overviews for your main keywords, you can do that for free. Where it makes sense to pay for an AI Overview monitoring tool is when you need to track your AI visibility over time and scale across hundreds or thousands of keywords.

## Which AI Overview tracking tool should you pick?

Think about what you really need. If you only want to do a quick lookup to understand which of your target keywords trigger AI Overviews, you can use a free tool like SEO.com’s AI Overview Checker.

If you want to compare your organic rankings and AI Overview citations side by side, choose a rank tracker that includes AI Overview tracking, like SE Ranking. For agencies, Advanced Web Ranking is the better choice since it includes unlimited projects, users, and history.

Those looking to do advanced AI visibility monitoring and track AI Overviews alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and other AI engines should opt for a tool like Searchable. [Get started](https://app.searchable.com/signup) for free with a 14-day trial today.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between an AI Overview tracker and an AI Overview checker?

An AI Overview tracker tracks your keywords and their associated AI Overviews over time, updating data on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. An AI Overview checker performs a one-off lookup: you enter your domain or keyword, and it lets you know whether a keyword triggers an overview and which domains were cited.

### How often do Google AI Overviews change for the same keyword?

AI Overviews change often enough that performing a single check won’t give you a reliable answer. A keyword can trigger an overview one day and not the next, and cited sources can change while the answer stays similar. This happens because Google generates the overview from scratch every time instead of displaying a stored version.

### Do AI Overviews appear for every keyword?

No. Google only shows AI Overviews for some queries. According to Google’s documentation, AI Overviews are shown for queries where its systems determine that it’s additive to the traditional search experience. They differ from [Google AI Mode](https://www.searchable.com/blog/google-ai-mode), which is a separate tab you open rather than a block that appears on its own.

### Can you see which pages Google cited in an AI Overview?

Yes, every AI Overview includes links to pages Google used to generate the answer. A few are visible immediately, while you need to click on “Show more” to see the rest.
