The State of AI Search: Black Friday Gifts UK

Discover what AI chatbots recommend as Black Friday gifts in the UK, across 10 gift types from mum and dad to Secret Santa.

Every day from 30 September to 8 October 2026, Searchable asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's two AI search engines the same Black Friday gift questions. We then recorded each website the answers cited and each product they named, to see which retailers and brands AI puts in front of UK shoppers before the sales begin.

Key findings
  • John Lewis is the most-cited retailer in AI answers to UK Black Friday gift questions, appearing in three in ten (30%) answers from ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI search. Boots (18%) and Menkind (13%) follow.
  • When people ask AI chatbots about Black Friday gift deals, 82% of the retailer pages cited are deals pages. For gift-idea questions, gift and category pages lead (49%), and product pages stay under 5% either way.
  • Retailers are the most-cited website for 7 of 10 Black Friday gift types in the UK. Which? leads teens and tech gifts, and LEGO's own site leads kids.
  • Shark's CryoGlow LED mask is the specific product AI names most as a UK Black Friday gift for her (18%) and for mum (15%), and the Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 leads gifts for teens at 23%.
  • Four of the ten Black Friday gift types have no product that AI names in even one in ten answers, which makes them the most open for retailers and sellers to compete in. Secret Santa is the most open of all: its top product, a Soap & Glory gift set, is named in only 3% of answers.
  • One in 50 UK AI chatbot users asked about Black Friday in Black Friday week 2025, and their questions doubled a month earlier, in the week of 27 October.
